| Meena
is an accomplished violist whose interests lie not only in music
but also in international relations. She has traveled extensively,
performing and collaborating in cultural exchange programs in Japan,
China, Iran, and Israel. These experiences contributed to Meena’s
passion for using music to facilitate cross-cultural dialogue.
Meena started playing the violin at age four and honed her skills
in classical music under the guidance of Itzhak Perlman at the
Perlman Music Program.
She is currently a fellow in The Academy – a
program backed by Carnegie Hall and The Juilliard School. Through
The Academy, she appears regularly at Carnegie Hall and works to
make music an integral part of the New York City community through
teaching and performing. Her recent engagements are taking her
beyond her classical upbringing to encompass various types of world
and popular music. Her work with the band Vampire Weekend has
led her to performances on television shows Late Night with
Conan O’Brien, Saturday Night Live, and MTV
Unplugged.
